Jeweler to the Sports Stars
Harry C. Glinberg
Harry Glinberg grew up admiring the finer things in life. As an adult, he has made them his business.
A certified jeweler gemologist by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), Glinberg excels in high-end diamond and precious stones as well as his custom jewelry work. He is also one of the Midwest's leading sellers of designer watches.
Glinberg is proud that he bas bolstered his client base with professional athletes from throughout the United States. Serving those in his backyard equally relate to his success. As he grows a relatively young business, encore visits to his store located in a western suburb of Milwaukee emphasizes the trust in creativity and value that his customers have learned to expect. Glinberg thrives on the creativity aspect of his business. He said people come in or call him each week and try to describe an item that they saw and want to duplicate, or have an idea they want to see result in a piece of jewelry. It's making these concepts and dreams reality that keeps Glinberg in the game.
"People come to Harry C. Glinberg Jewelers to buy what are clearly luxury items, so my ability to hit all of a person's senses means a great deal to making that first sale, and assure that they will return for future purchases as well as refer their family and friends," Glinberg says.
That they have. Glinberg got his first professional sports client in the early 1990s and that person's referral has helped Glinberg become the "go-to-guy" for jewelry to dozens of athletes in all of the professional leagues. His biggest sales in recent years have been in custom-designed watches and diamond-stud earrings; the latter that he assures may be replaced if one gets lost in the locker-room.
According to Glinberg, he makes it easy for athletes to do business with him. Despite the number of zeroes in their contracts, sports stars appreciate a good price for jewelry. Glinberg is willing to work on a closer profit margin than many of his competitors, and he does what he can to make customers happy. They also know that he always listens, even when they’re in a social setting; when someone wants to create a custom piece, Glinberg knows what style will likely appeal to him which saves time and ultimately, money for everybody involved.
A Milwaukee-area native, Glinberg has created a family atmosphere in his store. His mother, Marion Glinberg, works in accounting, brother-in-law, Shady Fares is an associate and other family members work in sales. His wife, Leticia, is his chief advisor, although she cares for the couple's two children, one of whom is confined to a wheelchair, full-time.
"My daughter's inability to do things for herself means that she depends on us more than another child might," Glinberg said. "Her medical challenges have certainly taught us that as important as business is to our livelihoods, as beautiful as a flawless diamond may be, family is the most precious thing of all."
